People who hire defence counsel should expect them to be competent in a courtroom. New lawyer, shouldn"t have taken the case since it was too complex. Certain things the client must decide upon after consultation with the lawyer. Lawyer needs to take instructions from the client at times. Some decisions by the lawyer needs to be respected by the client. A lawyer never has the right to judge his/her client, then you will be ineffective in defending your own client. Lawyer must respect the fact that their client is telling the truth, even though they may not be. Lawyer can guide their client to not testify, but can"t force them. If you have another competing interest, you as a lawyer cannot complete the task at hand because of this other concern in foreground or background, cannot give your client undivided loyalty.
