Age-related reducions in social interacions can be adapive. 2 main goals of social interacion: informaion seeking and emoional regulaion/fulilment. Informaion seeking is more important earlier on in life. Percepion of ime inluences the choice of social partners; ime unlimited-informaion seeking- prefer novel/new social partners, ime limited-emoion regulaion/fulilment-prefer familiar social partner (ime is usually perceived as limited as age increases) States that social interacions are associated with both costs and rewards. Familiar social partners are more likely associated with posiive feelings. Balanced if two social partners have equal desire to spend ime with each other (ideal) If interacion is unbalanced, one partner will have more power (individual or insituion); less powerful individual may withdraw from relaionship.
