Self-report measures: inner-directed observations; ask people to look within them- selves and disclose their own attitudes, feelings, perceptions and beliefs to influence the kind of info that is unique. With the development of behavioural methodology, fell out of favour to be replaced by behavioural responses and observational methods. Standardized measures: developed and are administered and scored according to certain rules or standards. Four important issue to consider using self-report: evaluation apprehension: anxious state when being evaluated that may make a participants" answers not entirely valid. Norm-referenced: can compare respondents" scores with those of a normative group. Issues lies within you creating your own rating instrument. Some questions may be open-ended items: offer opportunity to express feelings/im- pressions spontaneously. 4/29/16: does not lead the respondent by suggesting specific answers, exploratory, can answer in their own language - builds trust. Disadvantages: time-consuming, may elicit rambling and irrelevant responses, may be hard to assess for reliability.
