Access to the unconscious mind would help psychologists to treat patients who were troubled. The forces that interact with one another within our subconscious (outside of our awareness) Id: pleasure-seeking, selfish, indulgent, animalistic impulses; seeks immediate satisfaction of wishes; oblivious to consequences. Psychosexual stages of development: oral, anal, phallic, latency, genital. Fixations: when parents give not enough or too much attention at certain parts of life. Fixation at this stage leads to blatanty oral behaviours such as smoking or overeating, or dependency issues/trust issues. Parents generally impose a lot of control over children at this age (ex. toilet training, speech, behaviour, etc. ) Fixation at this stage leads to control issues (either too controlling, or slobbish and not organized) Most (cid:272)o(cid:374)tro(cid:448)ersial of freud"s stages (cid:894)oedipus a(cid:374)d ele(cid:272)tra (cid:272)o(cid:373)ple(cid:454)(cid:895) Children want to have a special, close relationship with parents at this age. Fixation at this stage lead to issues with self worth.
