PSYC 1150 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Synaptogenesis, Spinal Cord, Postcentral Gyrus
Document Summary
For specific examples of neurotransmitters - see table on page 95. 4/29/16: sensory information goes into, and decisions go out of, the cns, the nerves outside the cns are called the peripheral nervous system (pns) Frontal lobe: performs executive functions that co- ordinate other brain areas, motor planning, lan- guage and memory. Parietal lobe: processes touch information, inte- grates vision and touch. Temporal lobe: processes auditory information, language and autobiographical memory. Hypothalamus: oversees endocrine and autonom- ic nervous system. Hippocampus: processes memory for spatial loca- tions controls balance and coordinated movement. Midbrain: tracks visual stimuli and reflexes trig- gered by sound. Pons: conveys information between the cortex and the cerebellum. Medulla: regulates breathing and heartbeat conveys information between the brain and the rest of the body. Frontal lobes: lie in the forward part of the cerebral cortex; assist us in motor function, language, memory and planning: also organize and oversee most other brain functions - called executive functioning.
