Odd beliefs or magical thinking (ex. special powers) Excessive social anxiety that does not go away with familiarity (not because of worry about how others perceive them, but due to paranoia) Considered to be on a coninuum with schizophrenia (which is a psychoic disorder) w/o the debilitaion symptoms, such as hallucinaions and delusions. Dsm-5 includes this under personality disorder and schizophrenia spectrum disorders. Odd or bizarre way of relaing, thinking, behaving and/or dressing. Idea of reference (some able to "test reality") Beliefs around religious or spiritual themes requires cultural awareness to prevent mistaken diagnosis. Mild to moderate decrements in ability on cogniive tests of memory and learning --> damage in let hemisphere. High magical ideaion paricipants considered unrelated words more closely associated then low mi paricipants --> quesions around loose associaions. Prospecive studies show children who later develop disorder tend to be passive, unengaged. 30-50% who request help also meet criteria for mdd; depression prominent which is also treated.
