PSYC 2360 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Transformational Leadership, Overfishing, Social Dilemma
Document Summary
Defining group: 2 or more people, interdependent, exist within a social structure, have some sort of interaction. Sometimes yes; cyclists faster with other cyclists than by themselves. Sometimes no; people perform difficult task more slowly in front of other people than alone. Not exactly - it depends: presence of others increase our physiological arousal, enhances our dominant response on that task. If w are good at something, our dominant response is succeeding at the task (social facilitation) If we are not good at something, our dominant response is failing at the task (social inhibition) Evaluation apprehension: presence of others increases our concern that they"re evaluating us, for easy task, supportive audience can improve our performance, for difficult task, even a supportive audience can lead to worse performance. Easy task condition: take off and put on your own shoes. Difficult task condition: put on and take off poorly fitting socks, shoes, lab coat.
