PSYC 2560 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Axon Hillock, Axon Terminal, Motor Neuron
Document Summary
Sigmund freud"s diagram of the manner in which connections established in the system shows component that looks like neurons connecting to one another in a circuit but don"t touch each other. Circuitry like this gives way to psychological cognitive processes. Changes in the connection between neurons are due to experiences ex. Cell body (soma) contains a number of structures that is the control system of the neuron (releases energy, contains the nucleus dna) Dendrites receive information from other neurons, then travels down to the cell body, (axon hillock) final decision maker whether or not the neuron will send the signal. Receives thousands of inputs but has to decide what to output. Multipolar has multiple processes coming off of it (axons, dendrite), seen in motoneurons. Unipolar have one process coming out and are more commonly seen in sensory systems. Bipolar 2 processes, one coming in and one coming out, sometimes called interneurons (connection between 2 neurons)
