PSYC 3200 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Predictive Validity, Psychological Testing, Construct Validity
Document Summary
Nature, promise, and pitfalls of group testing. Ability tests sample a broad range of traits to estimate current level of functioning. Aptitude tests measure narrow range of skills and are designed to predict future performance. Achievement tests measure current skill level in relation to goals of school and training programs. Aptitude= homogenous segments of ability predicting future performance. Group tests often have multiple choice format. Group tests are often administered to screen and rule out individuals. Very large standardization samples in group testing, smaller in individual tests. Individual tests are geared towards treatment or remedial planning. Performance: digit symbol, picture completion, spatial, picture arrangement, object assembly. There is no digit span task on this test. Each designed for specific age or grade level. Assesses scholastic ability as well as reasoning. Has three areas: verbal (for effective reading & writing), quantitative (mathematics), and nonverbal (estimating visual focus in students with more limited verbal skills)
