Special considerations in the testing of cultural and linguistic minorities. The extent that society uses test results to make important decisions. When used ethically, testing provides a basis for arriving at sensible inferences about individuals and groups. Occasionally testing is irresponsible by design (pop psychology, pseudoscientific tests) Challenge of ethics in testing is to determine the boundaries of ethical and professional practice. Authors should strive for balanced presentation without bias. If early studies reflect poorly on a test, must be mentioned alongside positive findings. If potential misuse of a test can be anticipated, author needs to discuss this. A: simple tests that require minimal training; includes group educational tests and vocational proficiency scales. B: requires training in stats and knowledge of test construction; includes aptitude tests, personality invento- ries. C: most complex; minimum training needed is a master"s in psych or related field; projective personality tests, individual intelligence tests, neuropsychological tests. Organizations publish formal ethical principles regarding test use.
