Document Summary
Personality is a consistent set of behavior patterns that originate within the individual. Consistent is a particularly pertinent word in personality. It is not to say that one cannot change. Behavior, in this definition, is defined as emotional and cognitive. One does not find his or herself in any particular situation. Personality originates from within situation he or she chooses. Personality is about the individual (what makes one, tick, act, think?) Low brow refers to unsophistication, which stems from the study of bumps on the skull (phrenology) and the implications of these bumps in personality. Galen was a greek doctor who noticed that fluids came out of individuals when they were sick. He believed health came from a balance of fluids, and unhealthy came from an unbalance of fluids. He believed personality could be predicted by the balance or unbalance of humours (these fluids) Melancholic (black bile)= emotionally unstable and introverted, nervous, depressed.
