Most common professional activity of clinical psychologists - general overview. Through mid-1900s, most answers to this question came in subjective, non-empirical forms. Hans eysenck - believed most clients got better without therapy and that psychotherapy was of little benefit. His finding has since been overturned, but his study inspired decades of research on therapy outcome. Meta-analysis statistically combines the results of many separate studies; create numerical representations of the effects of psychotherapy - supportive of positive therapeutic outcome. Who: tripartite three party model - hans strupp, client - is it helping you? affected by therapy, improving their lives is the focus of therapy. Problem - may overreport benefits bc they spent money and time: therapist - supposed to know how it works; have knowledge on what"s supposed to work when. Problem - don"t want to be negatively evaluated. Directly observe a child at school or home to see if behaviour has changed.
