SACR 4650 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Panel Data, Differential Association, Delayed Gratification
Document Summary
Gender and pathways in and out of crime class notes. Longitudinal data makes this research now more possible. Just a snapshot at one person in time. Gather data from a long period of time. Do the research for a number of years the way boys and girls more into offending varies, especially by age. Because of this delayed onset; girls may fall through the cracks. Boys tend to be targeted early so girls don"t get the attention that they should. Focus on things like your relationship with your family, education, the area you live in-> to target. Agreed with the life-course perspective, but need to focus on girls offending; not just boys offending. Demonstrate that there"s a blurring of boundaries between victimization and offending; especially with girls. Girls who become offenders tend to have history of abuse more so then the boys. Need to pay attention to how they have been victimized.
