People presented with random words or words divided into categories. Category clustering: people either learned listed of related words or unrelated words. Better at remembering groups of words that are related than words that are unrelated. Memory results from sensory input and perception. So now we get errors, cause it"s a re-creation/best guess. Mentally re-living the experience brings the material back into conscious awareness. Read school children a story and tested their memory in short and long intervals. Pattern in recall: wouldn"t get it all right. Levelling - leave out aspects of the story they didn"t get or understand, edit it down. Sharpening - change order of events so that it would t better for their sense of the story. Schemas - story tting their own schema about how the world works. False memories hear a list of words read aloud followed by a delayed recall.
