Con ict has to have some mechanisms of resolution. Mutual satisfaction - we must be satis ed with our interactions with individuals, our roles, our interactions. Everything can be di erent than what is expected or considered normal, but if it works than it is considered ok . Your own biases play a major role. Not our job as therapists to convince people to do things di erently if it is working for their family unit. Ft is a point of view, an orientation. It regards problems and dysfunction as emanating from the family system rather than form the intra psychic problems of any one individual. Individual symptoms are seen as re ections of stress arising within a larger family systems. Systems theory - basis of family therapy. This stress may occur when the family is unable to negotiate a developmental passage or when a non-developmental crisis occurs.
