Document Summary
Intergenerational view of the impact of multiple stresses on family dynamics. Horizontal stressors: these are anxiety-provoking events experienced by the family as it moves forward through time, coping with changes and transitions of the life cycle. Can be predictable developmental stresses as well as unexpected, traumatic ones (illness, death, traumatic events) Famil ylife cycle from a developmental viewpoint. Important to keep in mind that other models exist and may be superimposed on. Duvall"s model, ie stages of marriage, divorce, single parents, adoption, blended families. Also people have criticized these models as too restrictive, life does not go in speci c steps (add yours here), assumes people get married to have kids. The point of this model is to describe some of the stages and resulting issues that a family deals with in the course of its normal cycle of development. Begins with marriage and continues until rst child is born (don"t have to be married)
