Biochemistry 2280A Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Tumor Suppressor Gene, Adrenal Tumor, Endoplasmic Reticulum
Document Summary
Genome: all of the genetic material present in a cell/ organism. Proteome: all the proteins that can be expressed by a cell/ organism. Transcriptome: all mrna molecules expressed by the genes of an organism: the genome feeds into the transcriptome which defines the proteome, the proteome feeds back to the genome by transcription factors, and by epigenetics. Biomedical science operates across scales; ranging from molecules to cells to tissues and organs. Defects at cellular level give rise to disease . Li-fraumeni syndrome: (checkpoints: germline mutations, affecting sperm/ ovum cells, in the tumour suppressor gene p53, predisposition to breast and adrenal cancer, sarcoma and leukaemia. Cellular behaviour contributing to disease : breast cancer cells chew up the extracellular matrix to aid metastasis, makes them good at spreading into many parts of the body, breakdown by endocytosis and use as a nutrient source.
