Biology 2581B Lecture Notes - Lecture 23: Dna Replication, Chromosome, Gene Duplication
Document Summary
Which way and which order genes are acting to develop an organism. How does one gene effect the expression of another, since there is a set order they work: you can follow expression patterns: compare things in different mutants and see the difference. Imaginal discs: from drosophila area that develops into wings. In the wild type we see an array of green, red and yellow: green: wingless protein, red: vestigial protein, yellow: both proteins are expressed, overlap zone. Potential protein interaction since one is necessary for the other. No vestigial expression anymore: no yellow where both proteins are expressed. Wingless affects where vestigial is expressed as the vestigial is not produced in many cells which it is found in the wt: vestigial expression depends on wingless being present in neighboring cells. Determining a pathway: we can analyze double mutants and compare to single mutant.
