What is the advantage in changing left vs right (opsin vs. retinal) Many enzymes catalyze the synthesis, if you screw with one enzyme then maybe the other enzymes cant recognize the product so all steps are messed up. Or mess with the very last step at the end? breaking camouflage in sequence = subtle changes in wavelength. Humans are part of the trichromats old world monkeys. More subtle changes in the wavelength if you change opsin if you change retinal there is a huge difference in wavelength absorption subtle changes. Dichromatic subjects are way more successful in this experiment much better at. Being able to see and distinguish more colours isn"t always better or helping to camouflage the shapes, therefore dicromats have a selective advantage in this sense. Evolution does not always favour the more complex system. Trichromats have a really hard time because there is so much colour that is.
