Document Summary

Review last week was delta g the free energy or the ability to do biological work. This week the enzymes and going from initial g to the next g, the reactions are carried out by enzymes. The energy to drive an endergonic doesn"t come from an enzyme, but along with atp it is able to couple these reactions and transfers phosphate group to make the molecule more reactive. Example reaction: the characteristics (1) exergonic atp is the product meaning that you are releasing energy (2) catabolic break down of larger molecule to smaller molecules, increase in number of molecules in the products. Life is made up of monomers and polymers, combination of subunits gives a living being. Made by biochemical pathways those which synthesize and link monomers together. Dehydration and hydrolysis to make polymers are anabolic. Breaking down polymers to monomers and breaking it down to individual molecules are catabolic.
