Lecture 2 - temperature 1: principles of thermal biology. Temperatures: humans live through a wide range of temps using technology, humans have one of the largest ranges of temperatures that they can live through. Temperature: by the year 2095 the climate in the most southern part of ontario will resemble virginia and north. Latent heat exchange, is the energy loss through water such as evaporation. Ectotherms - rely on external temperatures to determine tb. Heterotherms - have more than one temperature set point, or switch between homeo and poikilothermy. Regional endothermy/heterothermy - different tb in different parts of the body. Relationship between temperature and metabolism in an ectotherm: temp affects metabolism and metabolic rate, a small change in temp can lead to a large change in metabolic rate in this case (metabolic rate is dependant on temp) At cool temp you have a slightly lower q10. As you increase the temperature of the organ it increases exponentially (in this case)
