Document Summary

Mammals and birds: 4 chambered heart it"s like having 2 hearts. Blood from right ventricle going towards the lungs will go through the capillaries in the lungs and loses a lot of pressure, but it comes back into the left atrium and left ventricle and gets pumped again! So you can renew this pressure by having it go through one circuit of capillaries, and then pumped again to go through another circuit of capillaries. Anatomy is important allows for faster blood flow and thus faster metabolic rates. Difference between fish and mammal/bird is huge; it"s an evolutionary thing. Can change viscosity (add more water instead of rbcs which makes it more viscous) Increasing rbcs can get more o2 in but it increases the viscosity, so for the same pressure, you get lower blood flow it"s a tradeoff; it"s an acclimatory effect.
