The founding of rome is based off of two mythological traditions: romulus and reus: Twins and members of the royal house of alba longa: amvius/aneas: Trojan hero that escapes italy to found rome, his son founds the city of alba. The combination of these two myths shows that romans associate themselves with the literary, mythological, and historical traditions of the greeks. After killing his brother, romulus peopled the city with criminals and stolen women. He was the first of the 7 kings of rome in the period. After the criminal acts of the last of the 7 kings, lucious junius brutus expelled the kings and liberated rome in. After 510 bce rome was ruled by an oligarchy and became a republic. Rome began to clash with north africa (carthaginians) in the 3rd century leading to the first punic war in 264 241 bce.
