Very early greek history: detailed yet imaginative stories, 750 bce. Iliad and the odyssey put into the form we know them today: 6th century bce. Homer"s poetry is a blend of two periods: the 12th and 13th centuries bce. Bronze age: the 8th century bce. The polis, hoplite warfare tactics: they are epics which include details of two civilizations. One that vanishes long before homer and one that coexists with homer. The trojan cycle": the body of literature about the beginning and the aftermath of the trojan war, homer"s work only forms a small part of what happens. Oral singers: before the poems were written down parts were made up by whomever was reciting it. While the greeks believed he was a man some people today believe that a woman may have contributed. Thought of as history inside of a myth: probably the work of man authors. All the oral singers contributed to the poems before they were written.
