It consists of a set of interpretive material practices that make the world visible. Why choose qualitative research: because of who you are, comes down to what you want to say at the end of your research, because of what you want to know. The roots of qualitative research: hard sciences (bio, chem, physics) leads to positivism leads to social sciences (poli sci, anthro, sociology, history) leads to positivism, social sciences took on positivism. Paradigm 1: positivism: knowledge is out there waiting to be discovered, there is one truth or one answer, there is a single reality. Paradigm 2: post-positivism: ok, (cid:373)ay(cid:271)e (cid:449)e (cid:272)a(cid:374)"t (cid:271)e (cid:272)o(cid:373)pletely o(cid:271)je(cid:272)ti(cid:448)e but (cid:449)e should try to (cid:271)e, post-positivism, knowledge is out there waiting to be discovered, there is one truth, there is one reality, researchers aim to be objective. Epistemology researchers role; comes down to objectivity or subjectivity.
