Most commonly known for booming economy, social progress, etc. Olympe de gouges, declaration of the rights of women (france, 1790) As equal to men (and therefore worthy of the vote) New national boundaries don"t always correspond to ethnic or national identities. Most countries at the end of the first world war were experimenting with democracy most would swing back towards totalitarianism, monarchism, absolutism, etc. Kingdom of serbs, croats, and slovenes until 1929. Meetings were extremely tumultuous (passionate but sometimes dangerous) People wanted to avoid war at all costs after the devastation of wwi. Meant to neuter germany made them the scapegoat for wwi. Germany started the war and needed to be prevented from doing so again. Attempt to create an international system that allowed countries to discuss issues in a formal, open, peaceful way in order to prevent a future war. Woodrow wilson (us president) was father of this program.
