Health Sciences 2250A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Needs Assessment, Victim Blaming, Health Promotion
Document Summary
These are the measurements that we use within hp, but not reflective of the intended outcome of hp. It is ironic because we measure health by lack of health, but we want to improve health in ways that aren"t captured by death rate or other measuring tools. 9 assumptions of hp: health status is changeable, health & disease determined by interactions among bio, psych, behaviour, social factors. Takes into account many determinants of health: behaviour can change, those changes can influence health. It is not based on whether or not the health promoter is motivated and ready. The greatest chance for success comes from those who have the tools to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate health promotion programs . Efficacious (efficient) hp efforts based on assumptions, and follow basic generic format. Process of hp: understanding & engaging target population, needs assessment of population (some method that requires feedback from community)
