Document Summary
Lecture 8 stimulus response theory and social cognitive theory. Through theories & models, we can shape behaviours to be specific in individuals. Unit of change must be considered: individuals vs. groups. Consider if you want to change the behaviour of one person or large masses of people. Combination of operant conditioning and classical conditioning. Learning: events which decrease physiological dries that activate behaviour. If a consequence of a behaviour strengthens the behaviour, it"s called a reinforcer. Strengthen/maintain behaviour by its added pleasure (ex. When you study and do well, it brings positive reinforcement. Reinforcement makes behaviour more frequent and stronger. A consequence that strengthens behaviours by being subtracted from situations (removing unpleasant consequences). (ex. By removing unpleasant consequence of meetings, increases behaviours. Take someone who wants to quit smoking and put them in a room w/ other people and tell them to continue smoking more than they usually smoke.
