Document Summary

Client refers to an equal relationship vs. patient which refers to a hierarchy. Having concrete examples of how this works. Understanding why people do what they do. The first tool is asking the client what they want. We cannot change someone"s behaviour without working with them. The most important thing to do is ask people to come up w/ their own agenda because they know what they want to change and what success means to them. A body in motion wants to stay in motion, and a body in rest wants to stay in rest unless there is intervention. The best predictor of our future behaviour is our past behaviour, unless there is an intervention. Something must change for the change to happen. Ambivalence means uncertainty on what you are deciding to do (ex. I really want to eat healthy, but candy is cheap right now); the decisions are always conflicting with each other.
