Kinesiology 2236A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Connective Tissue, Tendinosis, Blood Vessel
Document Summary
Healing rehab exercise return to sports. Used to be called acute or chronic. Occur suddenly and have a clearly defined cause or onset. Occur when tissue loading is sufficient to cause sudden irreversible deformation of the tissue. Usually in high speed sports with or without high energy contact. Occurs slowly over time secondary to the repetitive dynamics for the sport or movement in question. Repeated overloading, each incidence of which, alone, is not enough to cause irreversible deformation, but which when accumulated over time exceeds the tissue threshold. May heal a bit, and then reinjured again. Seen in aerobic sports that require lengthy training schedules or in technical sports where a movement is repeated numerous times. Extrinsic/external- originating outside the anatomical limits of a part (training, bad shoes, increased duration of training, not sleeping enough, training conditions, frequency) Intrinsic/internal- belonging to or lying within a given part (anatomy, tight hamstrings, flat feet, knee misalignment, not enough sleep)
