If your hand is resting on a table, you have a closed kinetic chain: more stabile, you cut out a bunch of degrees of freedom, exc. Sequencing of segments: throwing movement patterns are open kinetic chains, pushing movement patterns are closed kinetic chains, with both movement patterns, the sequencing of segments is critical. Sequencing means the timing of motion of each segment: ground may be the torso when applying concept to human arm, during a push (passing a basketball) everything moves at the same time.
