Kinesiology 2241A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Olympic Weightlifting
Document Summary
Pushing movements are characterized by all segments in the kinetic link chain moving together. They are concerned about creating the largest force possible against the resistance. Performance is measured by peak force produced athlete. Jumping and takeoff aerial events, race starts, punching and kicking, lifting, cyclic events. For these events, the performance is measured by the impulse of the force (i. e. , the average force times time) the power over time. Jumping: resistance comes from the inertia of the body com as it is accelerated upward against gravity. Takeoff for aerial events: resistance comes from resisting gravity and setting up the right angular momentum. Have to get cog high enough: race starts: resistance is the inertia of the body resisting horizontal acceleration. Punching (punch is a push, slap is a throw): resistance is first the inertia of the arm and then the target. Kicking: resistance is first the inertia of the leg and then the target.
