Kinesiology 2241A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 27: Viscosity, The Fluid
Document Summary
As we covered in the last lecture , most of the activities we do are done surrounded by air. And those activities that aren"t done in the air done in the water. Whenever we move through a fluid, the fluid applies a drag force and slows our motion. In the real world, we throw projectiles through air. Air is a fluid and therefore imparts a drag force to the projectile related to the speed squared. The velocity that we are talking about in the drag force equation is the relative velocity between the fluid and the object. Tail wind doesn"t push the amount of drag is reduced 20 to 15. If the fluid is moving to the side (i. e. a side wind) as well as in a headwind or tailwind, then there is a lateral component to the fluid velocity that the object. So the drag force is angled to the object"s pathway.
