What is it good for: sport, sport sociology, society (context, culture culture of sport, context is key, social construction. Clarification: sociology is not psychology (different questions, different perspectives, psych may be interested in the motivational aspect of a individual, different perspective. Sociology- is focused on group aspect of sport. For practical people it boils down to the question of inclusion and exclusion: who gets to play, efficacy. Inclusion and exclusion based on the power relation ship: groups operating in context, privileged and non privileged- effects of power relationship. Sports and p. a. provide stories and images used to explain and evaluate these contexts: we are all involved physically. Sports and p. a. provide a window into culture and society: the tools (concepts) of sport sociology enable us to examine social like in context and see connections between our lives and the larger social world. The study of social life, including all forms of interactions and relationships.
