Document Summary

Using theory: to establish a reflective perspective, applying scientific theories can provide different critical points of view. Indigenous societies and organizations have continually had to struggle for the recognition of the rights within the context of the dominant settler society, often being subjected to human rights abuses and discriminatory practises. If the system continues to operate as is it will always produce outcomes that discriminate against nonwhites, and where whiteness remains invisible, such a reproduction is more tricky to challenge. It occurs mostly indirectly, because the guidelines privilege main stream sports and events. Non-whitestream race and ethnic-structured sports systems: challenges to the dominant white stream sports system have occurred, alternative possibilities were constructed included minority athletes who could participate without having to face racial expressions. Such possibilities are often used by new canadians who identify with specific ethnic or religious backgrounds; and in this way sports and alternative sports can also contribute to social integration.
