Document Summary

Answer: only subjective perceptions of success are relevant to one"s self-concept/self-esteem. This can be confusing: sometimes your own perception differs from other"s. Self-esteem + self-concept have traditionally been measured as unidimensional, global constructs: now we know they"re multidimensional, unidimensional strategies are inadequate. 2 physical self-concept measures (specially in exercise) have been introduced: physical self-perception profile (pspp, physical self-description questionnaire (psdp, both measures are reliable and valid, wouldn"t use both these questionnaires, researcher preference on which to use. Valid and reliable instrument containing 5 subscales: sports competence, physical condition, body attractiveness, physical strength, physical self-worth. Multidimensional as it has 5 subscales (well these 5 are the 5 most important) Relatively short measure, 30 items, but limitations are that the response format is complex. It is not too user friendly: some people find it quite confusing, comparing yourself now to some ideal.
