Rate of perceived exertion scale (rpe): people rate how hard they think they"re working. People report a lower rpe when exercising next to a person who makes an exercise look easy. People may exert themselves too strenuously when others are watching. People may push themselves too hard --> may lead to injury. People may be concerned that other perceive them as weak if they reduce the amount of weight they are lifting. May put too much weight on --> risk of injury increases. Norms (i. e. what is normal) are reflected by a number of factors: Amount of resources dedicated to helping people to be physically active.
