Importance of organizations: various organizations can be grouped according to some specific characteristics within the four functions of the managerial process - planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating and their similarities and differences in these functions. The identity of the organization is different from the identity of the members within the organization (organization has own identity) An organization exhibits instrumentality when it can achieve goals that are beyond the capacity o the individual members (without instrumentality there would be no need for people to join organizations) What is the goal/end outcome from the organization. Goal achievement is beyond the capacity and abilities of any individual member of the organization (need more than one person to achieve the goal) (need the group of people to reach the goal: a program of activities. The programs of the organization define some of the goals of the organization an the domain in which it operates (specific activities = specific goals of organization)
