Many people strive to be the very best in a given activity, but few actually become experts . Just like a pyramid, only few experts at the top of the pyramid, and many novice people at the base. In most physical activity (pa) contexts three general components come into play: January 20, 2017: technical: sport-related skills training. 3-point shoot in basketball: physical: strength, speed, endurance, mental: motivation, focus, attention. If you have a weakness in 1 of these components your likelihood of being successful is greatly diminished. Experts tend to have few, if any weaknesses. E. g. 1 roger federer has very few weaknesses very good at what he does, playing tennis. E. g. 2 all hockey players in the nhl are experts take a long time to get there, but not all experts have the same success. This knowledge is relevant when designing appropriate training interventions, including psychological interventions (williams & reilly, 2000).
