Document Summary
Anna, bernie, charlie, david, and emily are employees of campus radio. The station runs two shifts, morning (m) and afternoon (a). Bernie, david, and emily work the morning shift. A m is the set of employees who work both afternoon and morning shifts. M a: {a, b, d, e} (m a)c = {c} One of the other things we do with sets is comparing them. Two sets a, b are equal, if they contain exactly the same elements. We say set a is a subset of set b, if everything in a is also in b. Ex1: {cat, dog} is a subset of {cat, dog, tree} Ex2: {cat, octopus} is not a subset of {cat, dog, tree} Ex3: write out all subsets of {lobster, 100, !} Ex4: count the number of subsets of {1, 2, 3, 4, 5} that have no odd numbers in them. 2, 4 are the only numbers that might appear.
