Spleen serves a filtering func, an adaptation to malaria, b/c infected rbcs pass through the spleen; pop malarial parasite out and let the rbc continue. So if spleen is removed in a splenectomy, this would be dangeorus. Only 1 genus of mosquitoes that carries malaria; they"re the big ones and only are dusk to dawn biters. Mosquitoes are attracted to heat and co2. Only females bite and only females make buzzing sound. Mosquitoes predominantly live on plant juices but need blood meal for egg development. How they bite: stick into capillary and fill with blood pressure, and periodically regurgitate saliva to act as an anticoagulant. Mosquito injects sporozoite, and takes 30 min to reach liver (liver has some filtering and immune func [liver, spleen, bone marrow are reticuloendothelial system]) Get a schizont (full of malaria), and is asymptomatic at this point still.
