Personal culture: influences and evolution & history and context. Immigration is a big factor, many different cultures so we need to understand them. It is not the expectation for nurses to know every culture. However, the expectation is for nurses to be knowledgeable on diversity and be open/welcoming to diversity. Being sensitive to how people do things, try and have an understanding of other peoples culture. Demography: is the study of statistics such as birth, death, income, incidence of disease, which over time illustrate that changing structure of the population. This can tell us what culture is about. Culture tends to be passed from generation to generation. Certain foods you may or may not eat. Whole (listening to people speak, eventually you"ll learn) vs. phonics (pronouncing and learning how to spell) (reading/writing techniques) Used to just prescribe drugs, now its more directed towards healthy lifestyle.
