Therapeutic relationships i: boundaries, bridges, highways or territories. Develop/follow care plans that aims to meet client"s needs. Anything that may be perceived as boundary-crossing is included in the care plan. Do not interfere with the client"s personal relationships. Abstain from disclosing personal information unless it meets an articulated therapeutic need of the client. Continually clarifying the roles, boundaries and limits of the therapeutic relationship. Ensure co-existing relationships do not undermine judgment and objectivity. Do not engage in financial transactions unrelated to provision of care. Consult with colleagues/manager when it is unclear if a behaviour may cross a boundary. Ensure that nursing strategies are for the purpose of promoting the client"s health and well-being. Consider cultural values and context of maintaining boundaries. Freud linked his work to a chemistry working with explosives; you"ve got to be diligent. Nurse-client relationship is like meeting in the middle of a bridge; nurse and client work together to build and meet in the middle.
