Many nursing theories only focus on right circle; peplau"s recognizes both as equal sized and important. Collectivism: when you try to take the best of different theories and use all of them in every situation. Pluralism: in this because it"s not a situation i"m using. Peplau, in this situation i"m using a different theory. Communication: verbal, non-verbal, empathetic linkages communicated empathy. Competencies: if you don"t have interpersonal skills you can"t help others find them. Through development of competencies the client develops self understanding. 3 kinds of competencies we work with the client to develop: interpersonal, problems solving, community living. Phases are interlocking and overlapping not totally discreet: orientation. In the smallest interactions you see aspects of all relationship just smaller. Patients are going to be safe to test you (they aren"t immediately going to be comfortable: working: identification & exploitation. Make full sense of services: resolution. Preparing the patient to get on without you.
