Philosophy 1130 - week 11 : lecture notes. We have mostly looked at analytic philosophy in this class. Continental kind of says that there is more to analytic philosophy, the idea of something being left out. Heidegger began the complement of analytic philosophy (continental philosophy) Existentialism says that you have to look in the gaps of philosophy. There is something deeper than what is on the surface (the meaning of the experience) Existentialism -- the idea that human existence is a peculiar kind of existence in and for itself". Humans define their own meaning of life. Try to make rational decisions in an irrational universe. What does it mean to be a person and figuring out the meaning of your own existence. Heidegger joined the nazi party because he was pro-hitler. His contribution was the study of nothing -- there is being and then there is nothing.
