Aquinas’ View of Human Nature (p. 166-67)
• The form of a human being is its soul
• Soul explains difference between life and death
• The soul has dimensions that are not dependent upon the body
• The separated soul, needs God to give it either a body or intelligence to work
• Without the body, the soul cannot perform any of its natural functions
• Holomorphic view of nature

• The ordinary world is not that uncertain
• We do know to some extent the world around us
• This mental capacity is called “active intellect”
