Rights theory = most influential approach to human rights in modern era, invented 1600/1700s by hobbes and locke, first applied to real world by founding fathers of usa. Says you can go to war in two cases: 1) war as tournament = if everyone involved in the military action on both sides is there willingly then no rights are being violated. 2) war of defense = in defense of rights. State of nature = how humans are in their natural state, before society, before laws, judges, etc. It is a state in where i can kill you in some ways and you can kill me in others. Equal: not with equal strengths and weaknesses but it evens out . For example, you may be stronger than me, but i am much smarter. We are all equal threats to each others safety. The life of man is solitary, poor, nasty, short and brutish.
