Identify key structural features and functions of executive power: build n the distinction between political and bureaucratic executives, distinguish between presidential and parliamentary forms of government. Executives in context: legislature: makes laws, enacts legislation. Where law gets generated and extended to be implemented: executive: takes the legislation created and executes it into a law. If someone feels like law is flawed or there is something wrong with it, they bring it to judiciary. Fill holes in the law, make abstract law more clear by applying it to real life. Initially, states were made up of undivided monarchial power and sovereignty. King or queen used to perform all three functions (legislative, judiciary and executive) Power was unified rather than divided: overtime, the separation of institutions happened. Separate institutions emerged to take over these powers.
