Dream content (scan: finish chapter 6 + 226-233) What do we dream about: sleep apnea. Normal but people with disorder do not start breathing again unless they wake up. May stop for about 1 minute, hundreds of times a night. Sid (sudden infant death syndrome) many believe sleep apnea is cause of sid: narcolepsy. Person suddenly falls asleep at odd times. Often triggered by strong emotions: parasomnia. Many walking actions performed out of awareness. Occurs in lighter stages (1 or 2) When asleep, child suddenly sits up, screams. Not associated with dreams occurs in stage 3 or 4. Auditory cortex activated all at once, rather than inhibited. Typically sleep walking as well (stage 3 or 4) High cal foods consumed much faster than normal. Typically not remembered, but not hungry in morning. Sleep as much as needed, but not more. Failure & misfortune outnumber success 3 to 1. Can incorporate external events (water on face)
