Consciousness: our behaviour, other"s behaviour, the environment, decisions/problem solving, state of our body, appearance, emotions, thoughts, anticipation, past thoughts. Peter gray definition of consciousness: the experience of one"s own mental events in such a manner that one can report on them to others. Working memory: system that actively holds multiple pieces of transitory information in the mind, where they can be manipulated. Features of working memory: small capacity (one project to the next), memory of short duration. 2 principle ways that determine consciousness: setting the theme (what project are you going to do) and control of exposure. States of consciousness: being asleep and awake are two different things. Conduction aphasia: connections between broca"s and wernike"s area gets cut and affects the capacity to talk to yourself. What we are not conscious off? reflex"s/automatic reactions procedural knowledge/skills prejudice and stereotypes sensory adaption general beliefs (we can hold these and not be aware of it) personality traits.
